What seems second nature to one child may seem foreign to another.  One child looks around his/her classroom, recognizes order, understands sequence, and organizes papers, textbooks and agendas quickly and easily...just as the teacher has planned.  Another child looks around his/her classroom and recognizes no order and feels out of place and always behind.  Organization and paper management are mysterious skills that elude even a motivated student.  These students have a hard time seeing the forest for the trees. 

Other students have reams of knowledge in their heads.  They have an extensive vocabulary and understand and participate in high level discussions.  They absorb information from conversation, media, their own experiences, observing adults, and collaborating with peers.  But ask them to write it down?  There's a disconnect just like when your printer fails to work when you punch PRINT.

Some students lack the speed to get things done quickly in the classroom or at home.  They eventually complete an assignment, but hours have been devoted when minutes could have sufficed.  The Learning Lab  can help determine the sources of these problems whether it be slow processing speed, distractability, giftedness, inattention, or even depression.

Our Learning Enhancement Center focuses on learning how to learn which are the child's tools for success.  Organization, prioritizing, time management, goal-setting, note-taking, computer know-how, memory techniques, study strategies, and social skills can propel a child forward or limit his/her opportunities.  These are school, and eventually work, skills that separate progress and satisfaction from disappointment and frustration.
